PROJECT OVERVIEW

The brief for this project was to design and build a third bespoke garden building at this property, following the successful completion of two previous structures in 2022: a reading room and a combined gym/office. The new building was required to function as an artist’s studio while seamlessly matching the style, materials and colour palette of the existing garden rooms, ensuring it sat harmoniously within the client’s exceptionally long, wooded garden.

This beautifully designed garden room provides a bright, inspiring workspace for a local artist working from home. Flooded with natural light from all sides, the interior feels open and airy, further enhanced by a striking 1.5 m × 1 m rooflight. Measuring 7 m × 4 m and finished with a contemporary pent roof, the building offers an impressive 2.8 m internal head height at the front, creating a spacious, uplifting environment that is both highly practical and visually stunning.

Externally, the building is clad in black composite weatherboard to perfectly match the existing garden structures. Internally, the studio features durable laminate wood flooring and a modern electrical specification, including Wi-Fi connectivity, a smoke alarm, multiple power sockets and energy-efficient LED downlights, ensuring the space is comfortable, functional and ready for everyday professional use.

Constructed on a solid raft concrete foundation, the garden room has been designed for long-term durability, with a robust build that eliminates the risk of nesting rodents or foxes. As the third building we have designed and constructed on this property, careful attention was paid to maintaining visual continuity across the site. We also supported the surrounding landscaping works, using traditional sleepers to retain the ground and frame the building beautifully, delivering a high-quality finish that complements both the garden and the home.
