I knew I was in good hands right from his first visit, when we discussed my ideas at length and he gave me plenty of expert advice before I made my decision. We live in a typical London terraced house so the only access to the garden is through our somewhat cramped flat, and it could have been an utter nightmare, particularly during the foundations-laying phase, plus of course I didn’t want to upset the people living in the upstairs flats by making a mess of the common hallway. No problem on that score, thanks to the extreme care they took to cover carpets and clean up after every day’s work.

The whole job went incredibly smoothly, all the different trades-people were magnificent, they worked amazingly hard and always with a smile so it was a real pleasure to have them around the house and garden, indeed I felt quite tearful when it came to say goodbye, not the usual feeling when you’ve €œhad the builders in€ù, this is mainly due to Ben’s amazing people management skills, a lot of CEOs of much bigger outfits could learn a lot from his utterly unflappable approach. I was consulted on every last detail of the job and all the admin, including the planning permission, was organised by the super-efficient and very friendly Alison who runs the office.

The end result is a deluxe, energy-efficient office space for me and a really good€“looking addition to our home that blends in beautifully with its surroundings and has done nothing to detract from the appeal of our lovely garden in which you can easily forget you are only minutes away from the heart of London.
